A New Family for Trixie
Nine-year-old pit bull mix Trixie had only known one home with a loving family. But to her complete surprise, Trixie found herself, through no fault of her own, being surrendered to Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA in October 2018. Her family of the last nine years was moving and couldn't take her with them.
Trixie's entire world was suddenly turned upside down and she found herself in a shelter without her home or her family. But Trixie decided to make the best of her situation and quickly bonded with staff and volunteers at the shelter. She became a superstar in the shelter's behavior classes impressing everyone with her ability to spin in circles when asked. Trixie wasn't about to accept the mantra "you can't teach an old dog new tricks."
Trixie had several things against her: She was a senior and she was a pit bull mix. Trixie hoped potential adopters wouldn't discriminate against her age or breed and that she would soon have a new loving family to call her own.
Four months later a family came into the shelter looking to adopt an older female pit bull. They had recently lost their 15-year-old pit bull, Prada, and wanted to fill the hole in their hearts her passing had left. Once they met Trixie, they knew she was the perfect fit for their family.
"She is an amazing and loveable senior dog who officially joined our family on January 22nd. Trixie has quickly acclimated to the family, has her favorite squeaky toys and met her new doggie neighbors."
Trixie is now a very much loved member of the family and her smile shows her gratitude to those who didn't give up on her because she's older and a pit bull mix. Thanks to your support, Trixie has a second chance and her new family has a new love.
