Kitten Nursery Celebrates 10 Years!
Saving the lives of the most vulnerable kittens
Ten years ago, we opened our on-site Kitten Nursery to give underage, motherless and abandoned kittens a second chance at life; it was one of the first of its kind in the nation. In those 10 years, this nursery has become the safe refuge for more than 1,500 itty-bitty kittens who charm everyone with their little meows.
Like many shelters, in 2018, we experienced a dramatic spike in the number of kittens admitted into our care. We graduated 369 kittens from our nursery last year, a record. As we reflect on the 10 years since the opening of our Kitten Nursery and look forward to continuing for many more, we take pride in knowing that we've saved the lives of 1,536 underage kittens through this program alone—thanks to our devoted staff, volunteers and donors.
Kittens housed in our nursery are not yet available for adoption. They have undeveloped immune systems and cannot eat on their own. Volunteers hand-feed them using syringes and help kittens go to the bathroom. This nursery is part of our larger Hope Program, the lifesaving work made possible by donations from supporters like you.
You can make a big impact for the kittens in our nursery and other animals at PHS/SPCA through a legacy gift. To learn more, contact Lisa Van Buskirk at 650-340-7022, Ext. 327 or Lvanbuskirk@phs-spca.org, today.
