From Rags to Riches

Kate and Meghan Get a Second Chance

KittensEvery year, the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA provides lifesaving care to hundreds of underaged and motherless kittens through our Kitten Nursery. The Kitten Nursery is a lifeline for these vulnerable "itty bitty" felines who need the assistance of humans to survive. Our Kitten Nursery is now celebrating its 11th year of operation and rapidly approaching the milestone of saving the lives of 2,000 neonatal kittens.

This past summer, we welcomed two very special underaged kittens into our Nursery. What made them extra special was that they were Royal kittens. Well, okay, not technically members of the Royal Family, but they were named Kate and Meghan after the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex.

Kate and Meghan arrived at our shelter after being found alone, hungry and crying in a backyard. Their mother was nowhere to be found and it was clear they had been on their own for a few days. With no food or help from their mother, these underaged kittens were helpless and unable to fend for themselves. It's a miracle the kitten duo survived. Since they required round the clock attention and care, we placed the gray tabby sisters into a loving foster home.

Kittens

Sisters Kate and Meghan found their forever homes with a new family in Half Moon Bay.

In their foster care home, Kate and Meghan were indeed treated like royal Duchesses! Lots of food, play and adoration were on the menu while these tiny fur balls continued to grow strong and healthy. Once they were old enough for adoption, they were spayed and brought back to our adoption center to meet new people to charm. A couple from Half Moon Bay fell in love with both of the girls and took them home.

Kate and Meghan's beginning started out rough, and without our intervention, which is made possible through your support, they may not have survived. Their rags to riches story is a testament to living happily ever after.

The lifesaving work performed through our Kitten Nursery is part of the overall lifesaving work you help us do. The lives of these underaged kittens are in addition to the more than 6,000 animals we save each year.
