A Second Chance for “Chance”
The little homeless terrier was attempting to cross a busy road when he was struck—not just once, but twice—by unsuspecting drivers. Thankfully a Good Samaritan spotted the dog, removed him from the road and called Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA for help.
The expert veterinary staff at our shelter immediately evaluated the dog and saw that he was covered in cuts and bruises, but despite being hit twice by vehicles, he did not have any broken bones. He was given antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine, and a safe, warm place to rest his weary and battered body. The dog had no microchip or other identification on him, and sadly, no one came forward to claim the injured little terrier.
Since he so miraculously survived his ordeal, our staff christened him with the name “Chance,” and we knew we were going to provide this tiny dog with the second chance he so desperately needed.
Chance was emotionally shut down and extremely shy. After months of receiving tender loving care from our staff and volunteers, Chance learned to trust humans again, and he’d light up when he was given attention. It was time for Chance to be placed for adoption.
A woman came into our shelter looking to adopt a dog and fell in love with Chance’s scruffy face and sweet personality. He’s now living his best life in his new home, where he never has to worry about being abandoned or homeless again.
Chance is just one of the thousands of animals we treat for medical and behavioral challenges at Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA. Through your generous support, we were able to give Chance his much-deserved second chance.
